Scam (Crypto Scam)

Any trick designed to steal your crypto. Common types: fake giveaways, phishing sites, fake support, pump & dumps. Transactions are irreversible—prevention is critical.

Wallet (Crypto Wallet)

A digital account for storing crypto that only you control. Contains your public address (safe to share) and private key (never share).

Private Key

A secret cryptographic code that proves ownership of cryptocurrency and allows you to authorize transactions—like a password that can’t be reset.

Recovery Phrase (Seed Phrase)

12-24 random words that back up your entire wallet. The ONLY way to recover crypto if you lose your device. Never store digitally.

Hardware Wallet

A physical device that stores crypto offline. Maximum security—even if your computer gets hacked, your crypto stays safe. Buy direct from manufacturer only.

Hot Wallet

A wallet connected to the internet (phone/computer app). Convenient for small amounts but less secure than cold storage. Examples: Exodus, Trust Wallet, MetaMask.

Cold Wallet (Cold Storage)

Storing crypto completely offline (no internet connection). Maximum security for long-term holdings. Hardware wallets are the most popular form of cold storage.
